Paula Ambrose, Program Officer, Education 

As the Education Program Officer, Paula manages the grantmaking for the Foundation’s early literacy initiatives. Paula has also served as the Communications Director for Oakland Reads 2020, a citywide initiative focused on one of the most important predictors of school success and high school graduation: grade-level reading by the end of third grade.

Paula brings a wealth of experience from both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. Her nonprofit experience includes serving as director of national partnerships at Playworks where she was responsible for leading the identification, development and launch of strategic partnerships and programs to help advance the mission of the organization. Additionally, she provided leadership for establishing a national community engagement strategy and infrastructure. Paula’s for-profit experience includes supporting the global philanthropy efforts of a fortune 500 company. In this role she managed the company’s education and economic development grant making through planning, execution, evaluation and dissemination of results.

Paula is committed to community service and volunteers to support community action and health awareness.  She has also served as an adjunct instructor with the Coro Center for Civic Leadership Development. Paula grew up in Oakland and has a MS in Human Resource Management and Organization Development from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. She also has Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Organization Behavior from Pitzer College.
