THE CRUCIBLE
The Crucible is a nonprofit arts education organization that fosters a collaboration of arts, industry, and community. Through training in the fine and industrial arts, The Crucible promotes creative expression, reuse of materials, and innovative design, while serving as an accessible arts venue for the general public.
History
Moving into its second decade in 2010, The Crucible has grown from a grassroots art studio into a nationally recognized arts center. Known for one-of-a-kind industrial arts education programs ranging from blacksmithing to robotics to fire dancing, The Crucible is also highly regarded for its innovative theatrical performances.
The Crucible offers more than 500 industrial arts workshops to adult and youth students each year. From welding and blacksmithing to woodworking and glass casting, artists work alongside expert instructors in an unparalleled learning environment. Youth programs serve more than 4,000 youth annually with a focus on providing programs for students and schools in Oakland. Each year The Crucible also presents a spectacular collaborative performance merging fine art, fire art, music and dance.
