New Models Cohort - Kenneth Rainin Foundation

The New Models Cohort focused on identifying and creating optimal conditions for art to be made and to sustain artists’ creative practices.

The Foundation is committed to helping Bay Area artists thrive in today’s economy and working collaboratively to achieve systemic change. The New Models Cohort was a workgroup of the Kenneth Rainin Foundation and our grantees.

The inaugural cohort in 2018 included six small to mid-size nonprofit theater and dance companies:

We explored individual and collective alternatives to organizational models that could improve systems and better unleash creativity. The artistic and executive leaders in this group worked closely with coaches and peers for nine months. They analyzed how they support artistic practices and explored which major, or minor, changes in their methods and structure could lead to greater organizational sustainability.
