Centering Community In Decision-Making
The Foundation’s Community Councils, composed of racially and ethnically diverse community members, offer their wisdom and work alongside Rainin Foundation staff to strengthen our Education Program strategies and grantmaking.


Foundational Skills
After the immediate success of SEEDS of Learning in transitional kindergarten (TK), we found that to maintain a child’s learning trajectory to third grade, literacy instruction and intervention in kindergarten through second grade (K-2) had to improve. We partnered with Oakland Unified School District, Education for Change Public Schools and Aspire Public Schools to pilot initiatives.
