The Kenneth Rainin Foundation awarded over $165,000 in grants to support summer programs, evidence-based interventions and leadership growth initiatives that are aimed at boosting early literacy development for Oakland children.
As organizations, teachers, tutors and families continue to navigate the impacts of COVID-19 and return to in-person instruction and programs, we are committed to ensuring that they have the necessary resources to support children all year round. These grants align with our equity-focused strategies, which support the learning ecosystem. The three strategic equity levers that guide this round of funding are:
- Teaching and learning that support early childhood literacy and social-emotional learning both in and out of class.
- Support for families and community to strengthen school-home partnerships and build parents’ leadership and advocacy for their children’s wellbeing.
- Strategic networks of community-based organizations that convene and build the capacity of early childhood educators and providers.
The Rainin Foundation remains focused on ensuring that every child enters kindergarten ready to learn and is reading at or above grade level by third grade. These grants prioritize ensuring that organizations, families and teachers have the resources they need to support Oakland’s students and their caregivers.
