Virginia McManus is the Education Program Officer at the Kenneth Rainin Foundation. She supports grantmaking and evaluation to help ensure that every child enters kindergarten ready to learn and is reading at or above grade level by third grade.
Virginia grew up in Oakland and served as an elementary school teacher and reading specialist in East Oakland and Boston for a decade. She has designed and led monitoring and evaluation systems for several early literacy-focused organizations, including The Oakland REACH, FluentSeeds and Collaborative Classroom. She is driven by a deep belief that all Oakland children deserve to gain the skills to communicate, learn and thrive, and that the families, communities and organizations closest to the work understand it best.
Virginia holds a Master in Effective Teaching from the Sposato Graduate School of Education and a BA in Comparative Religions from Swarthmore College.
