Diversity, Equity & Inclusion - Kenneth Rainin Foundation

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

The Kenneth Rainin Foundation is embedding diversity, equity and inclusion in how we work and carry out our grantmaking.

We are dedicated to using the resources at our disposal, our standing in the community and our collective and individual voices to build an equitable and just society. This includes examining our beliefs and questioning the systems and structures that constrain philanthropy and shape the work of our grantees and partners.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Vision Statement

To fully live our mission, the Kenneth Rainin Foundation embeds principles of diversity, equity and inclusion in the way we work—from who we hire to how we invest and carry out our grantmaking. Embracing diversity, equity and inclusion is essential to ensuring that barriers are removed so Oakland children can unlock their extraordinary potential, artists thrive in the Bay Area and people with Inflammatory Bowel Disease live healthy and happy lives.

We are inclusive in our collaborations and center our efforts on the people who are most affected. To deepen connections to each other and this work, we have reflective and brave conversations. We take responsibility for the impact of our actions and words. We understand the intersectionality of identities and have empathy and understanding for perspectives and experiences that differ from our own. We challenge our assumptions and practices so that we learn and grow and become more effective. We strive for transparent communications, decision-making and policies that build meaningful and trusting relationships.

We are committed to creating an equitable and just society. This is long-term work and we take joy in elevating our individual and collective accomplishments along the way.

Accessibility Commitment Statement

The Kenneth Rainin Foundation is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible website for all users. We strive to implement, maintain and increase the accessibility of our digital properties by adhering to available standards and guidelines and we understand that accessibility is an ongoing process that needs continuous attention.

As part of our commitment, the Kenneth Rainin Foundation engaged with Perkins Access, a division of Perkins School for the Blind, to ensure that our organization supports a culture of inclusion and that our main website conforms to the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (W3C WCAG) Version 2.1 Level AA requirements to the maximum extent possible. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities. In addition, Perkins Access has been contracted to provide WCAG 2.1 AA auditing, user testing with native users of assistive technology, ongoing accessibility support and expert standards guidance. Should you experience any difficulty accessing our website, please contact our Communications Team.
