To support a five-week summer school program with daily reading instruction for 600 rising kindergarten to fourth grade students from district schools. Program includes weekly workshops to train parents to teach reading at home, teacher professional development, and coaching and home visits.

To help maintain the take home book program for 174 classrooms and 3,383 children and provide capacity building for Father Corps program staff.

To support cross-sector collaborations, led by the Mayor’s Director of Education, to advance early childhood education efforts, support kinder readiness goals and provide continued support for Oakland Promise’s cradle-to-career efforts.

For the West Oakland Literacy Initiative which is designed to strengthen literacy skills for kindergarten to third grade students at four elementary schools in West Oakland. Culturally affirming literacy skill-building supports will be provided throughout the school year and for six weeks in summer via their Freedom Schools program. They will combine these services with responsive parental supports.

For a planning grant to develop the Men of Color Early Education Teaching Fellows Pilot. To support SEEDS of Learning, an eight month professional development program for transitional kindergarten and kindergarten teachers, that includes materials, classroom tutor resources and ongoing coaching support.

To fund a book access program that allows students to choose the books they are most excited to read (with level guidance from their teachers) and keep them for their home libraries.

To fund the pilot of a technology platform that will allow community volunteers, parents and other lay people to support students with one-on-one and small group instruction.

To support the final stage of development of Center for Collaborative Classroom’s Social Emotional curriculum that supports teacher’s capacity to integrate social emotional development supports into academic instruction.
