To support delivery of their birth to five early literacy program at 18 clinics in Oakland. Pediatricians are trained to speak with families during well-child visits about the importance of reading aloud and interacting with their children. Families also receive a free book at each visit.

To support the enrollment and service to 800 unduplicated students at 17 sites (14 reading centers) across Oakland with twice weekly 45-minute literacy tutoring sessions.

To fund a pilot of a teacher development and assessment system project that triangulates: 1. community-specific “Indicators of Impact” (III); 2. teacher effectiveness; and 3. classic academic indicators (CA State Achievement data). Data will be used to design teacher growth plans and to measure the impacts of teacher development on teacher performance and student outcomes.

To support the development of a plan for an early childhood leadership post-BA program at San Francisco State University. The planning will lay the groundwork for the establishment of a program that will leverage EDvance’s current model of preparing first-generation college students, from underrepresented populations, to be future early childhood leaders in Oakland.

To support a five-week summer school program with daily reading instruction for 600 rising kindergarten to fourth grade students from district schools. Program includes weekly workshops that train parents to teach reading at home, teacher professional development and coaching and home visits.

To help maintain the take home book program for 174 classrooms and 3,383 children. Launch the program in 8 new classrooms supporting 132 children and their families. Through technical assistance visits, and workshops, Tandem will serve 261 educators at school sites.

To support Unity Council’s Children & Family Services department in creating a set of strategic objectives that build on and improve program performance. This effort will also assess client outcomes and impacts, and provide recommendations to improve data capture, analysis, and action planning.
