For a continued partnership focusing on transitional kindergarten to second grade literacy with 39 district schools. The goal is to reduce the number of second and third graders who are reading below grade level by providing targeted and data driven support in earlier years. Support includes leader and teacher professional development, SEEDS of Learning for new teachers only, and Systematic Instruction in Phoneme Awareness and Sight Words (SIPPS) intervention materials, for first through second grade.

A four-hour interdisciplinary performance trip through grief and joy that invites us to consider our role in the climate crisis by ODC Theater Resident Artist Larry Arrington. Created in collaboration with over 20 women and queer interdisciplinary performers, Eleusis draws from the Hellenistic rituals of the Eleusinian mysteries to explore the necessity of interdependence within the Anthropocene.

From 2014-2020, The Flight Deck was a home for multidisciplinary artists to present work, share resources and practice radical acts of imagination in the heart of downtown Oakland. Through PianoFight’s “Reimagining Business Models in the Arts” research project, they are developing an Oakland Cultural Space Cooperative. This business will network, preserve and activate cultural spaces, with the goal of sustaining culture makers of color who are facing displacement.

NOD2 (nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-containing protein 2) is one of the most prominent risk factors in Crohn’s disease (CD), but the chemical mechanisms by which NOD2 mutations gives rise to CD is unclear. NOD2 is a proposed sensor of bacterial cell wall fragments that when mutated results in intestinal inflammation. However, the specific commensal bacteria that activate NOD2 and mechanism(s) by which NOD2 detects cell wall fragments at the molecular level is unknown. To elucidate how NOD2 senses gut bacteria and their cell wall fragments, we will evaluate specific commensal bacteria in mouse models of CD NOD2 mutants and determine the structure of cell wall fragments in complex with NOD2. Our collaborative studies provide a unique multi-disciplinary and synergistic approach to address the molecular mechanisms of NOD2 CD mutations. Understanding these fundamental mechanisms of NOD2 should afford new opportunities to design novel therapeutics targeted at NOD2 mutations in CD.
