The Kenneth Rainin Foundation is pleased to announce the promotion of Lorena Gomez-Barris to a newly created role, Director of Administration and Workplace Experience. She assumed this position effective January 1, 2026.
This title reflects an expansion of Lorena’s previous role as Director of Administration and recognizes the integral part she has played in building and shaping the Foundation’s internal culture. She will continue fostering a people-centered workplace through her values-driven leadership and thoughtful implementation of culture- and team-building initiatives.
Lorena expressed that stepping into this new role is a chance to contribute strategically to the Foundation’s mission. “With a broader vantage point, I can connect the dots across departments, strengthen collaboration and use those insights to develop, update and reinforce key organizational tools and systems. I believe that strong operations create trust, accountability and shared momentum, ensuring our collective efforts are aligned and sustainable over time.”
Lorena joined the Rainin Foundation in 2020, putting her extensive nonprofit experience and passion for community to use as a dynamic leader of the Administration Team.
I have always approached my work with heart. I am grateful for the chance to continue to expand my perspective, support others and help cultivate a team culture where people feel valued and empowered. It is a responsibility and a privilege.

Since 2020, Lorena has co-led an internal Employee Experience Advisory Group that works to advance equity and weave connections, collaboration and joy into the cultural fabric of the organization. Her involvement illustrates her commitment to upholding the Foundation’s values of creativity, equity and interdependence as she considers the everyday experience of the Foundation’s employees.
“Lorena brings enthusiasm, fun and passion to her work,” said Laverne Matías, Chief of Organizational Effectiveness. “She excels at continuous improvement, actively listening and responding to staff feedback to shape her team’s priorities.” Laverne acknowledged her leadership in envisioning and launching an internal website that helps staff learn about the Foundation’s equity journey and how individual departments have contributed to it.
Lorena has shaped our work in meaningful ways, and we’re excited to see her continue that impact in this role.
